Can I use the product every day?
Absolutely! Nana’s Anti-Mould Solution can be used both as a mould treatment spray and as a regular preventative treatment. We recommend preventative sprays in mould-prone areas at least weekly.
Does cleaning mould cause spores to be released?
Cleaning mould can lead to airborne spores, especially during scrubbing or wiping. Ventilation and sensible precautions are always recommended during cleaning.
Does your solution actually kill mould?
Nana’s Anti-Mould Solution is designed to help remove visible mould and to inhibit mould regrowth using a plant-based formula made for humid homes.
How do I deal with stubborn stains in grout?
For stubborn stains on grout or shower tiles, we find baking soda to be an effective non-toxic alternative. What you do is mix a thick paste of baking soda and a small amount of water, apply it directly to the grout (and lightly to tiles if needed), let it sit, scrub, then rinse thoroughly. Here's the process in more detail:

1. Make the paste
Combine baking soda with just enough water to form a thick, spreadable paste (similar to toothpaste). Start with roughly 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water and adjust. Avoid making it too runny—it should cling to vertical surfaces and grout lines without dripping.

2. Prep the surface
Sweep or vacuum loose dirt. Wipe tiles and grout with a damp cloth if needed so the paste can stick. Wear gloves if you have sensitive skin.

3.Apply
- For grout: Use an old toothbrush, small scrub brush, silicone spatula, or gloved fingers to press the paste firmly into the lines. Work in small sections so it doesn’t dry out before you scrub.
- For tiles: Spread a thinner layer over stained or dull areas with a soft sponge or cloth. Baking soda is mildly abrasive, so go easy on delicate or polished surfaces.

4. Let it sit
Leave the paste on for 10–15 minutes (up to 20–30 minutes for heavier buildup). This gives the mild alkalinity time to lift dirt, grease, and some stains.

5. Scrub
Scrub the grout with a stiff nylon brush or dedicated grout brush using circular or back-and-forth motions. For tiles, use a soft sponge or cloth in gentle circles. Rinse the brush frequently.

6. Rinse and dry
Wipe or rinse thoroughly with clean water (a spray bottle or damp microfiber cloth works well). Remove all residue so it doesn’t leave a film or attract more dirt. Dry with a clean towel or allow to air-dry.

Helpful tips
- Boost if needed: For tougher stains you can add a few drops of dish soap to the paste, or apply the paste first and then spritz lightly with Nana's Anti-Mould Solution (or white vinegar) (it will fizz—this is normal). Scrub while it’s reacting, then rinse well. Do not mix large amounts of baking soda and vinegar in advance; the reaction is most useful on contact.
- Test first: Try a small inconspicuous area, especially on coloured or sealed grout/tiles.
- Frequency: Deep or mouldy grout may need repeated applications or a stronger dedicated cleaner.
- Safety & practical notes: Baking soda is non-toxic and safe around most surfaces when used as a paste, but rinse completely. In humid conditions (common in many Australian homes), ensure good drying afterward to reduce the chance of residue staying damp.

This method is simple, inexpensive, and effective for everyday cleaning of ceramic or porcelain tiles and standard grout. For heavily stained, sealed, or natural-stone surfaces, adjust technique or check manufacturer guidance.
I’m still seeing discolouration after treating an area with Nana’s Anti-Mould Solution. What should I do?
Discolouration that remains after treatment is quite common, especially with older or heavier mould growth. Here’s what we recommend:

1. Give it more time to work
Our vinegar + botanical formula needs adequate contact time. For stubborn areas, increase the dwell time to 30–90 minutes, or even leave it overnight (cover with plastic if needed to keep it moist). Then scrub and wipe thoroughly.

2. Repeat the application
One treatment is often enough for light mould, but heavier or long-standing growth may need 2–3 applications over a few days. Re-apply the spray, allow a good dwell time, and scrub between treatments.

3. (If necessary) Follow with oxygen bleach for staining
Once the mould itself has been treated, any remaining stains or discolouration can usually be improved with oxygen bleach (sodium percarbonate). Mix according to the product directions, apply to the cleaned surface, allow 10–20 minutes dwell time, then wipe or rinse. This step is specifically for brightening and lifting residual marks rather than killing mould.

Important limitations to keep in mind
- Long-standing mould can cause permanent staining or damage to surfaces (especially porous materials like paint, plaster, or timber). In these cases the mould may be gone, but the mark itself may not fully disappear.
- Nana’s Anti-Mould Solution is designed for surface mould on accessible areas. It is not a structural remediation product. Mould growing inside wall cavities, under floors, in ceilings, or behind linings requires professional assessment and treatment.
- If moisture sources (leaks, poor ventilation, high humidity) are not addressed, mould and staining can return.

Other tips
- Always ensure the surface is as dry as possible after cleaning.
- Improve airflow and reduce humidity in the area to help prevent recurrence.
- For ongoing protection, a light preventative spray every couple of weeks in high-risk spots (bathrooms, laundries, etc.) can make a real difference.

If the discolouration is extensive, keeps returning, or you suspect hidden mould, we recommend contacting a qualified mould remediation professional for further assessment.

Is it safe to use around children and pets?
Our products are designed as a plant-based, non-toxic alternative to harsh chemical cleaners. As with any cleaning product, we recommend keeping out of reach of children and pets and using in well-ventilated areas.
What ingredients do you use?
Our formula contains white vinegar (5% acetic acid) and high quality essential oils including clove, tea tree and eucalyptus. We also use a plant-based emulsifier and surfactant.
Why do you use refill pouches?
We use refill pouches for three simple reasons:
